December 17, 2020

Here's your last blog post for 2020!

Ms. Huebner and Mrs. Cox want to thank all of the students for their exceptionally hard work during this past few months.  We have been impressed with the positive attitudes and perseverance our students have shown during this difficult time in our lives working through a pandemic.

We also want to say a heartfelt THANK YOU for all the gifts, cards, and well-wishes that came our way this week.  We are definitely feeling the love!  We wish all of our families a very joyous and safe holiday.

We had a very fun day and even managed to do quite a bit of math with arrays for the last day of school.
two of our students taught the class how to make 3 dimensional trees and we created a coulee array of trees.  If you aren't sure what an array is, ask your child to explain it to you.

We also talked quite a bit about what our week of online learning will look like from January 5-8.  All students and families will receive a schedule with their class times.  It will be very different than it was in the spring as students are expected to be online with their class during the school day and complete all the assigned tasks and join our Google meets at the specific time.  We will be taking attendance each morning and after lunch each day.  We would appreciate it if you could ensure you are able to log on to your Google Classroom using the student @educbe account before the 5th so we can do any troubleshooting before we begin our week of online learning.

Your child has brought home a green folder with a journal, pencil, graphing paper and white paper.  They also each brought home some Home Reading books.  These are to be used during our week of online learning so please do not use the paper and journals for doodling!  We do need the Home Reading books to be returned once we are back in class.

 Tomorrow is PJ Day!

We started our morning with a period of time where we finished up our painting from yesterday. Then we continued to explore arrays, repeated addition and multiplication! Some students used arrays. Pssst... Don't Peek----> We made some cards and/or ornaments for family gifts!

Our last week before winter break...

Reminder that Thursday December 17 is the last day for students! There is no school on Friday!

Thursday is PJ Day!

We are sending home a duotang folder with some supplies to be used for our work in the new year. These supplies will be needed in our first week back from break when we are doing online learning.

This morning we revisited the idea of repeated addition and how it connects to the concept of multiplication. We first practiced with a picture of Santa's Reindeer. Then we then worked on our challenge question with a picture of the cityscape of Calgary.

We watched the calendar videos that Mrs. Coulson made for our count down to winter break! It was Ms. Huebner's class today and we were super excited to see our performance! Here is a peek...

While Ms. Huebner's class was in music, Mrs. Cox's class did some reflective writing about the year 2020, the challenges we have faced and the resilience we've shown during a global pandemic.  As we say goodbye to 2020 and welcome the new year, it's important to take time to look back and see what we've accomplished!

This afternoon we spent a lot of time studying the properties of rocks and then creating a beautiful water colour art piece inspired by our own coulee rocks.  We looked at shape, size, colour, luster, texture and rock type.
