Monday March 1, 2021

Important:

We are going on a Coulee Walk tomorrow afternoon! Please dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear! It might be a pretty mucky one!

For the month of March. We had so much fun in December that we have decided to do it again! Spirit Days will be every Wednesday in March with different themes. We look forward to see what you come up with.

March 3: Backwards Day
March 10: Dress Like Your Teacher Day
March 17: Animal Day
March 24: Inspirational Shirt Day

This morning a student brought in a real bird's nest and shared it with the group. We looked carefully at how it was designed and made. What materials were used? How does it stick together? All of our insights will help us as we begin to build our own structures later this week.
We worked on our multiplication skills and practiced applying different rules to function tables. After that we began to explore the idea of area and perimeter. What is the difference. Students were challenged with a shape and had to calculate its area. In the afternoon, students had the opportunity to create their own country. What factors are important. What is the climate? Where in the world is your country located? What grows there? What animals live there? What type of biome exists? The students started to create flip books to document their facts.

On Friday, we started to weave a bird nest prototype with pipe cleaners. We are learning about how a structure might be made stable in nature. We also realized that the work a bird does is appreciated. It is complex!
