Our last week before winter break...

Reminder that Thursday December 17 is the last day for students! There is no school on Friday!

Thursday is PJ Day!

We began our day with a minds on activity around the concept of multiplication. Then we explored how we can understand multiplication using repeated addition. What does "groups of" mean. We practiced with number lines.

We watched a video and practiced taking sketch notes and jot notes to capture our learning about the Life of a Rock! We learned about the length of time it takes for the rock cycle to occur. We learned about different ways rocks might be used as tools or materials.

Reminders:

PJ Day Thursday Dec. 17th

Last day of school before the break is Thursday, December 17.

Today was a very busy day in the Harmony Pod!

The students wrote a personal narrative and today they blew us away with the quality of their writing.  We have seen so much improvement from the beginning of the year and they seem to have developed a great understanding of what a personal narrative is and how to expand their memory, use descriptive language, and paint a wonderful picture in the reader's mind.

The student teachers finished reading The Wild Robot to the students and the book ended with Ch. 1 of the next book.  It of course left off with a cliff hanger so you may need to go out and find book 2 to read at home over the holidays:)

We were sad to say goodbye to our two wonderful student teachers but we know they'll be back in February and wish them a happy and safe winter break.

Today Mrs. Cox's class was today's advent calendar performance.  Their hand bell performance was so beautiful!  Way to go!

Reminder:

December 17th is PJ Day - Dress up in your favourite Pyjamas!

We are currently focusing our literacy work on writing personal narratives.  After reading and listening to a number of examples of personal narratives, we have outlined what it means and identified some non-examples.  Today the students used a organizer/template to think about a memory they have.  We gave them the prompt: Write about a very special day you had.  The students were challenged to stretch their memory and include setting, senses, emotions, etc. to make their writing more interesting and to paint a picture in the reader's mind.

After yesterday's work with data collection and graphing, the students were challenged to make their graph neater and easier to understand.  They also wrote a conclusion statement to state what information the graph provided.

This afternoon was all about The Wild Robot.  We are hoping to finish reading the novel tomorrow before our student teachers leave for a short while (their last day is tomorrow).  We then spent more time constructing our robots and then reflected on how their robot connected to the story and included the most important component, being adapted to withstand the wild environment.
