Today we had a visit from a group of Bowness students, called the "Earth Guardians".  They created an art piece out of plastic bags to draw attention to plastic waste and recycling and upcycling.  The students enjoyed the presentation and then reflected about ways they can help in their home, school, community, world.

Me - reuse a plastic bottle for water, don't litter it could end up in the ocean.
Home - only use reausable straws.  If we have a plastic bag we can reuse it for many things.  Try to ban single use plastic at home.  Reuse party cups.
School - use less paper.  use recycled supplies for crafts
Community - donate plastic to the school for crafts, if we see trash on the sidewalk, we can put it in the proper bin.  Reduce usage of single use plastic, and ask people you know to do it.  Pick up garbage when you are out for a walk.
World - Ban plastics that can't be recycled.  Make sure restaurants have less plastic and more paper.

This morning the students were faced with a challenging math puzzle.  The puzzle is similar to a Sudoku but it involves number operations.  Here is the first one we did today:

The number in the corner of each box tells you the total of the bold box as well as the operation you need to perform.  For example, the 12x could be 3 x 4 or 4 x 3.  The rows and columns need to have the numbers 1- 4.
